• Canteen Stores Department (CSD) has been serving the Armed Forces and is committed to live upto its Motto ‘Service to Services’. This business organisation under the Ministry of Defence over a period of time has attained greater heights from its humble beginning in the year 1948.
• Despite macro economic concerns in the Indian market in the recent past, there has been phenomenal growth in sales turnover as also in the wider range of products. The department has achieved sales of over Rs.7000 crores in the year 2008-09 and is poised to achieve a targeted turnover of Rs.8500 crores by close of financial year 2009-10. The credit for this unprecedented growth goes to the co-operation and support of the formation Headquarters and the Unit Run Canteens as well as our business partners.
• CSD attempts to vibe with the trend in civil market by enlisting latest products with the ultimate aim of highest level of consumer satisfaction. Weeding out of obsolete items (which have lost consumer focus) from its inventory range is also being carried out from time to time to make way for new and latest products.
• To enhance consumer satisfaction and better availability of products for our clientele at URCs, QD would be disbursed to the URCs shortly. CSD has embarked on refining the existing systems to make it more vibrant and efficient. The Integrated Canteen Stores Department System (ICSDS) to link all depots with the CSD Head Office would be functional shortly. This will help in better inventory management, efficient cash flow and will reduce denials of products to Unit Run Canteens.
• Unit and Formation Commanders are requested to ensure that the copies of monthly bulletins, price lists and catalogues are displayed at prominent places and are freely available for perusal of the consumers.
• The CSD will continue its endeavor to usher more efficiency to serve our valued consumer.
